Peter Hull started racing with the Mackay Cycling Club in the early nineties. That was fifty years after racing in Victoria, where he was a sprint champion in his early years. Peter raced on the road as well as the track, but his passion was track racing. He became a coach in 2005, specialising in sprint racing. He travelled all over Australia pursuing his passion for the sport and winning many medals.
Peter or "Hully" as he liked to be called held several positions during his time with the club, and was instrumental to the revival of the club in 2003, when numbers had fallen to eight riders. The number of riders we boast today is a testament to Peter's commitment and hard work.
Peter was proud to receive a Life Membership of the club in 2010, and was present for the first running of this race.
Sadly, Peter passed away on the 26th of June 2010. This race, dedicated to his memory, has become a much sought after prize. Peter's wife Rate continues to attend the race to present the winning rider with the trophy.
